LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar urged the judges of superior, high and lower courts to do some introspection over what service they have been doing to the country.

Addressing a gathering of lawyers here today, he said the Supreme Court was an independent institution and everyone should be proud of it.

CJP Nisar said that the current bench comprises of independent people, who adhered to highest standards of integrity.

He said providing justice with honesty and competency as well as in accordance with law was a duty of a judge and should not be deemed as a favour.

The chief justice once again urged judges to decide cases as per law, not according to their whims and wishes.

He called on judges to think about giving up their job, if they were unable to provide justice and decide cases within the stipulated time.

He asked them to dedicate just one year of their career to adhering to the principles of honesty, efficiency and uprightness and they would develop a habit that they will find difficult to get rid of, he said.

CJP Nisar lamented that those who were duty bound to address the grievances of public were not doing their job.

“We have decided that the constitution and rule of law are to rule supreme in the country,” he said.
