California Abuse Case Sparks Calls For Home-Schooling Oversight

Most states in the U.S do not require inspections or in-person testing for home-schools. The number of U.S children educated at home sits at about 1.7 million or 3 percent of that nation’s school age population. Lawmakers and advocacy groups are calling for more oversight of home schools after a California couple who had registered their house as the private Sandcastle School were charged with torturing and endangering their 13 children.
