By the late 1980s, Imagination were famous all over the world, having released a series of gold albums, having embarked on a series of sell-out tours and having even appeared on Soul Train with soul legend Marvin Gaye.

They are considered extremely important in the evolution of dance music thanks to their ground breaking proto-house album 'Night Dubbing'.

It all started when they were invited to perform at the legendary Paradise Garage, New York. The first ever English band to appear there, they gave the Garage crowd the full gold, sequined and satin Cleopatra disco dub experience and blew the place apart.

Larry Levan asked if he could remix one of their tracks and they all decided on the 'Changes'. On first listen to his version, the band & record label decided an entire album project should be created using the same approach, using synthesisers and drum machines aimed at a dancefloor. Night Dubbing was born.

Fast forward 30 years to 2012 and Imagination co-founder and drummer Errol Kennedy meets producer and DJ Yam Who? (ISM Records / Midnight Riot) in London. Two years in the making, Night Dubbing Vol II is a loving re-creation of the album using the same studio techniques, synthesizers, drum machines and hypnotic grooves, but modernised for the modern dancefloor.

The album features remix from disco heavyweights like Soul Clap, Late Night Tuff Guy, John Morales and Kon. What's more, Yam Who? is making all the parts downloadable so that you can remix your own slice of history. Get them here and the best will be shared to the ISM SoundCloud page.

The Night Dubbing Vol II album launch party is at Queen Of Hoxton, London Nov 28.
