Baltimore City Leaders Call for Calm Before Verdict

As Baltimore prepares for the first verdict in the case of Freddie Gray, city leaders are calling for respect of the judicial process. On Wednesday as the defense of Baltimore police officer William Porter began their case, the mayor and chief of police have called for calm across the city. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake held a news conference for bringing unity to Baltimore; she added that the unrest seen during the Spring in the wake of Gray's death is unacceptable. Chief Kevin Davis stated the department is not waiting on recommendations from the Justice Department, but has already begun to make and incorporate changes in community engagement.
