Jury begins deliberations in trial of Officer William Porter in death of Freddie Gray

As the jury now enters deliberations in the trial of Baltimore police officer William Porter, the closing statements of the defense and prosecution can be scrutinized. But the closing arguments in the first case related to the death of Freddie Gray closely mirror the opening statements. According to the prosecution officer Porter neglected the safety of Gray at least twice by not calling a medic and failing to belt him onto a bench in the back of a police van. Deputy state’s attorney Janice Bledsoe asked emphatically how long it takes to click a seatbelt to restrain someone or click a radio to call for a medic. Bledsoe also reiterated discrepancies between Porter's statements from an internal investigation and his testimony on the stand last week. However, Porter's defense stuck to a simple narrative. The state failed to overcome their burden of proof by attacking the officer's credibility with little tangible evidence.
