14 Years Later, 'The Room' is Getting a National Theatrical Release The film will be played in over 500 theaters across the United States on Jan. 9 for one night only. 'The Room' was written, produced, and directed by the movie's star, Tommy Wiseau, and is considered by many to be the worst movie ever made. James Franco recently directed and starred in The Disaster Artist, a movie based on the Tommy Wiseau, his best friend Greg Sestero and the making of The Room. I've never called it a cult phenomenon, or whatever they call it. I call it a free expression, that's what The Room represents.
