Medical Experts Worried About This Flu Season A strain of the influenza virus named H3N2 could be worse than the swine flu, experts say. The strain has affected over 51,000 Australians and earned the name "Killer Aussie Flu." The CDC reported 46 U.S. states have cases of H2N2 as of Dec 30. 2017. Up to 49,000 Americans die from the flu every year, according to the CDC. Medical expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told sources that a universal flu vaccine is key. But until then, doctors recommend getting a flu shot for the remaining three months of flu season.
