Hardik Pandya dismissed both of the South African openers Markram and Elgar getting India the much needed break through. Pandya batted really well as he struck 93 runs. India lost their big wicket post lunch session as Philanders dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara was caught in the 2nd slips on the bowling of Philanders. By the end of the 1st day India lost 3 of their batsman on low scores.
