Black Unemployment Rate is Now Lowest Ever Recorded The U.S. Labor Department reported the rates have dropped to 6.7 percent as of December 2017. The first recorded all-time low was seven percent back in 2000 during the Internet boom. There still remains a white-black gap in unemployment rates, but now black unemployment rates are 1.85 times greater instead of 2. Economic growth has encouraged such numbers with 2.1 million jobs added in 2017.
