Islamic State Claims Responsibility for Suspected Suicide Attack in Kabul

At least 41 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suspected suicide attack near a Shia cultural center and Afghan Voice Agency news organization in Kabul, Afghanistan, on December 28, TOLO News reported.The bombing occurred at around 10:30 am at the gate of the Tabyan social and cultural activity center, during a ceremony marking the 38th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Radio Free Europe reported. The center also houses the Afghan Voice Agency news outlet, whose staff were reported to be among the casualties.There were then two other explosions on the street outside as people arrived to help those injured by the first blast, Radio Free Europe reported.Spokesman for Ministry of Public Health, Wahid Majroh, said that those killed included 35 men, four women and two children. He said 84 people, including 76 men and eight women, were wounded in the suicide bombing.The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, while Afghanistan’s Taliban denied that it was involved, Radio Free Europe reported.
