Spinal implant helps chronic pain sufferers control aches

CHICAGO — Small spine implants can help numb pain in patients dealing with chronic aches and agony.

The technology, by Abbott Laboratories, works by the patient receiving an battery-powered implant into their body that stimulates an area of the spine called the dorsal root ganglion.

Pain processed by the body there can be counteracted with electricity from the device. The implant is operated via remote control.

A patient with chronic pain told Bloomberg the implant doesn't eliminate pain completely but can help make something they can live with.
