After being accused by several women of sexual misconduct, Minnesota Senator Al Franken announced that he planned to resign, but didn't give an exact date. Since announcing his resignation Franken continued to deliver speeches on the Senate floor and cast his vote, but a spokesman for the Democratic senator has confirmed that Franken will resign on January 2, 2018. Lt. Gov. Tina Smith will be sworn in on January 3 as his replacement.
