White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday said she was unsure of President Trump's views on UFOs.
She was asked about the Pentagon's recently revealed UFO-hunting program and whether the president has any interest in it or perhaps even continuing its funding.
Though she was unable to definitively answer the question, Sanders did give assurances that she "will check into that and be happy to circle back."
The secret program in question was, according to numerous weekend news reports, officially called the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program and was in place in one form or another from 2007 through 2012.
It received an estimated $22 million in funding and reportedly did not produce anything of significance.
Former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who was instrumental in the program's establishment, defended his involvement in the endeavor.
"We don't know the answers but we have plenty of evidence to support asking the questions," he said in a Saturday tweet. "This is about science and national security. If America doesn't take the lead in answering these questions, others will."
