The 2007 ICC World Twenty20 was the inaugural Twenty20 cricket world championship, contested in South Africa from 11 to 24 September 2007. Twelve teams took part in the thirteen-day tournament—the ten Test-playing nations and the finalists of the 2007 WCL Division One tournament: Kenya and Scotland. India won the tournament, beating Pakistan in the final.\r
Super 8s-This tournaments Super Eight format was designed such that the top 2 seeds from each group was pre-decided at the start of the tournament. The ual performance of the team in the Group Stage played no role in determining if the team qualified into Super Eight Group E or F. For example, in Group C, though Sri Lanka finished with more points than New Zealand, for the purpose of the Super Eight groupings, New Zealand retained the groups top seed position (C1) while Sri Lanka retained the groups second seed position (C2).\r

In case a third-seeded team qualified ahead of the two top-seeded teams, it took on the seed of the eliminated team. This only happened in Group A, where Bangladesh (original seed A3) qualified ahead of West Indies (original seed A2) and therefore took on the A2 spot in Group F. The other seven top seeds qualified.\r

The eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. The two top teams from each Super Eight group qualified for the semi-finals.\r

ICC World Twenty20-The ICC World Twenty20 (also referred to as the World T20, and colloquially as the T20 World Cup) is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket. Organised by crickets governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the tournament currently consists of 16 teams, comprising all ten ICC full members and six other associate or affiliate members chosen through the World Twenty20 Qualifier. All matches played are accorded Twenty20 International status.\r

The event has generally been held every two years. Originally there was going to be a four-year gap from the conclusion of the 2016 tournament to the next scheduled competition in Australia. However, in May 2016, the ICC put forward the idea of having a tournament in 2018, with South Africa being the possible host.The ICC are scheudled to make a decision on the 2018 tournament in October 2016.\r

Six tournaments have so far been played, and only the West Indies, who currently hold the title, has won the tournament on multiple occasions. The inaugural event, the 2007 World Twenty20, was staged in South Africa, and won by India, who defeated Pakistan in the final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The new tournament took place in England, and was won by the previous runner-up, Pakistan, who defeated Sri Lanka in the final at Lords. The third tournament was held in new, hosted by the countries making up the West Indies cricket team. England defeated Australia in the final in Barbados, which was played at Kensington Oval. The fourth tournament, the new World Twenty20, was held in Asia for the first time, with all matches played in Sri Lanka. The West Indies won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final, winning its first international tournament since the 2004 Champions Trophy.The fifth tournament, the new ICC World Twenty20, was hosted by Bangladesh, and was won by Sri Lanka, who became the first team to play in three finals. West Indies are the current World T20I holders, beating England in the 2016 final, winning their second title.\r
