Tommy Caldwell and Hazel Findlay have a spare day in France's Haute Savoie and what better way to spend it than by climbing one of the area's classic multi-pitch routes. The 9-pitch Carlos King (7b+/5.12c) may not be the area's hardest route, but it offers some complex route finding that makes it a real adventure and like every multi-pitch it also serves as a great exercise in bonding. The strong partnerships that make climbing such a special experience are never more evident than when tackling bigger objectives and the task of overcoming a route like 'Carlos King' together is more than a simple day's cragging, it's a true climbing experience. 'There's something about being up on multi-pitch routes that brings you close' Tommy says and as the pair work in synchronicity, relaying beta back and forth, relying totally on each other's abilities, never has that seemed more true.
