Wild country have stuck to the single axle design for their cams for a few years and despite making good weight savings with the Helium cams they were missing something to rival the DMM Dragon and the Black Diamond Camalot.
The New Friend has a twin axle design that puts this cam on a comparable level to the other market leaders by providing greater stability when placed in irregular features. Wild Country have removed the anodisation on the cam lobes and made the stem longer to give a more secure grip and the ability to place further into a crack system. The plastic thumb loop combined with a doubled up 12mm Dyneema sling sits in-between the design of the Camalot and the Dragon and gives the best of both worlds. In our opinion this is a great offering into the active protection world and well worth checking out.
