Venkaiah Naidu sets two records on Day 1 as Rajya Sabha Chairman. On his first day as Rajya Sabha chairman today, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu brought two changes in the conduct of the House. First, he appealed members to stop using colonial terms while laying papers on the table. While presiding over the Upper House proceedings for the first time on the opening day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Naidu said no member should use the word “I beg to” while laying papers on the table. “Just say I raise to lay on the table” the listed papers, Naidu said, adding, “No need to beg… this is independent India.”

संसद के शीतकालीन सत्र के पहले दिन राज्यसभा में उपराष्ट्रपति वेंकैया नायडू ने राज्यसभा के नियमों में एक बड़ा बदलाव करने का सुझाव दिया है। सत्र के पहले दिन सदन के चेयरमैन पद का कार्यभार संभालने के बाद उन्होंने तमाम मंत्रियों से कहा कि मेरा यह सुझाव है कि वह सदन में पेपर रखते वक्त वह गुलामी के शब्द का इस्तेमाल नहीं करें। नायडू ने कहा कि अब आजाद देश हैं ऐसे में हम उपनिवेशिक शब्दों के इस्तेमाल से बच सकते हैं।
