Tallest wooden pagoda in Asia destroyed in fire

A 15-story wooden tower, known as the tallest of its kind in Asia, caught fire and collapsed at a monastery in Sichuan, China on Sunday.

The pagoda was being renovated after the original structure dating back to the 16th century was destroyed at a major earthquake in May 2008.

The fire is believed to have started at a temple hall and spread to two other buildings with the wind. No casualties were reported.
