Colin Kaepernick may not have a ton of supporters in the National Football League, but at least he can count on Beyoncé to take a knee with him.
The singer presented Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy award, and included some kind words for the controversial former-quarterback.
According to E! Online, Beyoncé says “It feels so good to be here on such a special night of appreciation. Thank you Colin Kaepernick. Thank you for your selfless heart and your conviction. Thank you for your personal sacrifice.”
Of course, Beyoncé is referring to Kaepernick’s decision to take a knee during the National Anthem during NFL games, which some believe has highly contributed to him not finding a place on another team.
Beyoncé says, “Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion, only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of color.”
Along with the award, given to an athlete who uses their platform to promote change, Kaepernick knows that he has the support of one of the world’s biggest singers.
