Ahmad Zahid recommended Hishammuddin for new portfolio - PM Najib

Since the announcement of Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein's appointment as Minister with Special Functions on Wednesday, there has been a lot of debate on how and why the Defence Minister was named for the position.

Speculations had been rife that Hishammuddin's appointment would sour his relationship with the country's number two - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi - for obvious reasons.

But according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, it was Ahmad Zahid who had recommended Hishammuddin for the post.
