Bankruptcies rise to 253,635

21,987 Malaysians were declared bankrupt in 2013 , up 12.6 per cent from 19,525 in 2012.

According to Bank Negara Malaysia, defaults arising from sales and purchases of vehicles were the main reason for the bankcruptcies.
