In April 2012, Microsoft and Nokia partnered up in their joint effort to foster a third mobile ecosystem after iOS and Android. To enable local app developers to leverage on new opportunities brought about by the Windows Phone Marketplace, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), through its Integrated Content Development (ICON) Programme will partner with Nokia and Microsoft to spur the development of new local mobile applications.
