Report: Trump Was Told In January About Flynn’s Misleading Statements To FBI

President Trump has reportedly long been aware of the misleading statements Michael Flynn gave to the FBI.

President Trump has apparently long been aware of the misleading statements Michael Flynn gave to both Vice President Pence and the FBI.
According to CNN, White House lawyer Donald McGahn "told President Donald Trump in January he believed then-national security adviser Michael Flynn had misled the FBI and lied to Vice President Mike Pence and should be fired, a source familiar with the matter said Monday."
That source also made it clear that McGahn did not, at the time, mention that Flynn was in violation of the law or that Flynn was the subject of a criminal inquiry.
NBC News notes that a Saturday tweet made from the president's Twitter account has prompted additional questions about whether "Trump knew Flynn had lied to the bureau at the time Flynn was fired."
"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI," the tweet read, in part.
Trump's February 13 statement on Flynn's dismissal made no mention of the FBI.
Axios reports that John Dowd, a personal attorney for Trump, has since said he was the author of the tweet and commented, "I did not mean to break news."
"The tweet did not admit obstruction," he further remarked. "That is an ignorant and arrogant assertion."
