It may have derived its name from Bangladesh, but Cyclone Ockhi has made the South India sleepless as it prepares for landfall. The cyclone, which is a few km away from the southern tip of Tamil Nadu is likely to intensify. Districts of southern Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been put on an 'orange' level alert, and even states far away in the north east are expected to be affected. Four deaths have already been reported from Kerala, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out an advisory on its website — asking fishermen and people on the coastlines to stay indoors. But as is the case before every impending disaster, the question on everyone's lips is — is India prepared?

A kindergarten student in Kolkata, was allegedly sexually abused and assaulted by a teacher inside the toilet. The teacher allegedly lured the 4-year-old girl and took her to the toilet where he physically abused her. When the child returned home, she had blood stains all over her school uniform and was crying inconsolably. An FIR has been filed against the teacher and school authorities of alleged physical abuse and assault. The child has undergone medical tests but reports are still not out. Parents have also staged a protest outside the school and the hospital in Kolkata.
