Robotic clamp hugs heart to help it pump blood

BOSTON — New research published this month in Science Robotics details a robot heart device that can help pump blood to hearts with weakened ventricles.

The plastic device is powered by compressed air pressure and is place around damaged ventricle. It then squeezes the heart to help it pump blood throughout the body.

The mechanics of the device are said to be adaptive to the beating rhythm, reported Seeker, citing the research. It has only been tested on animals so far, but could one day hold potential for human treatment.
