Despite settling into the role of Marvel's Punisher, Jon Bernthal said that at one point he nearly turned down the starring role of Frank Castle. While speaking on Variety's 'Remote Controlled' podcast, Bernthal said, "Fully candid, being part of a superhero franchise was not something that I really had an ambition towards; it wasn’t really on my radar. A lot of the people that I really admire, actors that I really look up to have avoided that whole thing.” While other actor's have taken up the mantle of the Punisher, Bernthal's portrayal of the character appears poised to define itself as the definitive screen portrayal of the character.
