DOJ sues AT&T to prevent acquisition of Time Warner

The Justice Department is attempting to have the courts block AT&T from acquiring Time Warner in a $85.4 billion deal. AT&T wants to expand into media and entertainment, and combining with Time Warner will boost its revenue to $192 billion. But, the DOJ sees it as a violation of antitrust laws, even though it's a vertical deal between to companies who are not direct competitors. At&T said in a statement A defeat could make it harder for telecom companies to make these types of acquisitions in the future.
