Madrid, Nov 16 (EFE), (Camera: Juan Yagüe).- An armed assailant who entered a bank in south Madrid, taking several employees hostage, has turned himself in to police, security officials told EFE Thursday.
The man, thought to be around 60 years old, had entered a branch of Bankia in the working-class district of Usera at around 9.50 am local time and holed himself up inside with several of the bank's employees.
The tense situation unfolded for just over an hour before the suspect handed himself over to police, who had gathered outside.
No-one was injured during the incident.
The street where the bank is located, close to Usera's Olof Palme Park, was cordoned off by police, according to local residents who spoke with EFE.
