The video shows a group of Karate apprentices performing in one of the streets of Tangier, Morocco. They were invited by the Association of Ibn Battuta to participate and expose their skills to the public in the carnival organized during the International Festival of Ibn Battuta on November 09-12,2017.

In honor of the great Moroccan traveler, Ibn Battuta, one of the young apprentices displayed karate moves that he has learned throughout their training, which was an entertainment to the audiences while the parade is being held. Karate is a martial art popularized in Japan and the Moroccan students learning this art is a great example of cultural tolerance which follows that main theme of the festival “Travelers: Ambassadors of Peace and Tolerance”.

Learning karate has many benefits for our physical and mental health, and they are the following:

1. It can improve cardiovascular health and build strength.
2. It builds muscles, improves reflexes, as well as your overall disposition.
3. It helps to improve confidence and respect.
4. It helps to improve discipline and mental toughness.

According to the Honorary President of the Association of Ibn Battuta, Mr. Mohamed Dekkak, the karate performers effectively portrayed the values and principles promoted by the association. They are the instrument in spreading the great values of peace and tolerance as they become more accepting through consistent practice. Karate also develops wisdom, patience, awareness, and calmness.
There are many similarities between the Philosophy of Karate and the values of peace and tolerance. In karate, it is understood that one should be deeply modest and externally compassionate. It is said that the lessons of karate can only be learned by behaving humbly. Listening and being open to criticism is one of the lessons of karate and this is where tolerance is shown.

In karate being considerate is very vital. Although karate is a martial art, it is said that it must be used only when needed. The International Festival of Ibn Battuta promotes peace and the karate practitioners must have peace within them and should not become the cause of any struggle.

The second run of the International Festival of Ibn Battuta in Tangier utilized chains of artistic, ethical and progressive activities meant to develop mutual tolerance between diverse societies from different cultural upbringing. Many volunteers from different parts of the world have joined and supported the organization of the festival.

The carnival that marked the end of the festival also made its mark in the history with the commitment of the Ibn Battuta Association in forming relationships with international associations and organizations to create a future where peace and tolerance are easily achieved.
