"People that don't know me, they like to say I watch television — people with fake sources. You know, fake reporters, fake sources," Trump went on to say, according to the Washington Post. "But I don't get to watch much television. Primarily because of documents. I'm reading documents. A lot. I actually read much more...than I watch television."
Trump made those comments while traveling in Asia Saturday as a way of explaining his lack of position on sexual misconduct allegations against Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.
Despite the president's claim that he doesn't watch much television, various reports have indicated otherwise.
"Most mornings, Trump flicks on the TV and watches 'Morning Joe,' often for long periods of time, sometimes interrupted with texts to the hosts or panelists," Axios wrote back in January. "After the 6 a.m. hour of 'Joe,' he's often on to 'Fox & Friends' by 7 a.m., with a little CNN before or after."
And in August, CNN stated that "Trump is obsessed with cable TV news."
In addition to pointing out his tweets responding to live interviews or calling out media personalities, the news outlet says one of its reporters found out, based on inside sources, that after many of his events, Trump receives "a packet of screenshots showing how the television networks covered the event...This enables him to see the chyrons -- the headlines and captions on the lower third of the screen -- that were being broadcast during the event."
Trump's recent comment wasn't the first time he has downplayed his TV viewing time.
"The W.H. is functioning perfectly, focused on HealthCare, Tax Cuts/Reform & many other things," Trump tweeted in July. "I have very little time for watching T.V."
