Hour after the NGT directs new changes to the Delhi government's odd and even scheme from monday, exempting two wheelers and lady drivers, the Delhi government took an U-turn and has called off its odd-even scheme, that was to be implemented from nov 13 to 17 in order to curb pollution in the city. Delhi transport minister Kailash Gehlot said “In light of the the two conditions by NGT on 2 wheelers & women, at the moment we are calling it off. We will go back to NGT on Monday, file a review petition for them to reconsider their decision regarding the two”. He futher added “"If 30 lakh two-wheelers are off the road, Delhi's public transport system cannot accommodate the surge,". The sudden u-turn from the AAP government shows the lack of preparedness on its part. Earlier in the day NGT pulled up the Kejriwal government over its implementation of the odd-even scheme. The tribunal, while giving the green signal to the odd-even scheme, questioned the city government as to why it was granting exemptions to certain sections if the aim was to improve air quality.
