A loyal pet dog rushes to help his owner as he's attacked in the street by a man wielding a club.

Decha Kieow Ngaam, 57, had been closing his motorcyle repair shop for the day when the masked intruder ran inside. He smashed Decha over the head with the metre-long wooden stick - but the owner ran into the street to fight him off.

Decha’s loyal dog ‘Beer’ quickly followed the pair and nipped the leg of the attacker - a disgruntled customer - as they grappled on the floor. The ten-year-old Dhole breed then barked angrily and pushed its head against the thug as it tried to protect his owner.

After a tussle lasting almost a minute, the attacker fled into the night on his motorcycle in Samut Prakan, Thailand on November 3.

Decha - who had recently underwent heart surgery - said: ‘’The man was much younger and stronger than me but I fought back. Beer ran into street to help me. We were like a tag team. The man injured me but we won because he ran away. I’m sure that Beer saved me. The people in the street were watching, but he came to help. He was by my side and helped to chase away the attacker.''

Police checked CCTV and later found the attacker in a room in the Phraek Samai district. He was identified as Surasak Kanthana, 27, who told officers he was angry that Decha had refused to do a repair on his bike and ordered him to take it to another shop. Police Colonel Atiwat Nuttaawon, head of the local police station, said that Surasak had been arrested and admitted the attack and the case was being passed to a prosecutor.
