When something is marked 800, 900 or 925 or sterling, U dont really have to test it. REAL Silver is usually marked. There are of coarse exceptions. A professional will rub the silver on a testing stone or rub the stone on the silver (either way), and then put the testing solution on the stone. The trouble is, as I mention, there are items that are triple and quadruple plated so when u test the stone, it comes up as real silver.The scratch technique that I showed should only be used VERY sparingly and ONLY in non-obvious places like the bottom or in the bottom rim, where it doesnt show. Some may disagree with scratching of any kind. But if u are scrapping it and dont care, then go ahead. If it turns out as only plate, then U havent ruined the items condition.\r
