Finally, schools reopened in Chennai on Tuesday, after being closed for several days as a precautionary measure to avoid children getting into any trouble due to the current rain spell in the city and neighboring areas. "Just as schools started working in Chennai, #ChennaiRains2017 seem to say Dont forget me. Fresh bands approaching from East, could give more rains to many areas of the city. Heaviest Rains to the South of Chennai," tweeted @ChennaiRains, an independent weather blogging community from Chennai, on Tuesday morning. The North-East monsoon, which set in on October 27, has been active over Tamil Nadu, with Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts receiving heavy rains since last week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the situation arising out of heavy rains and floods in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu and assured the state government of all possible assistance from the Centre in tackling the problem. The last time when Chennai saw so much rainfall was during the 2015 South India floods which created havoc across the city and the state. At least 500 people died during the 2015 South India floods.
