Some Zara customers in Turkey may be finding tags about a labor dispute in their clothing.
"The tag reads, 'I made this item you are going to buy, but I didn't get paid for it.' It urges shoppers to back their campaign and pressure Zara into paying them," reports the Associated Press.
The people behind the protest had been working for a company called Bravo--a manufacturer of clothing for brands like Zara, Next, and Mango--when it allegedly shut down without paying three months of owed wages or providing severance.
A Change.org petition--signed by 140 Bravo textile workers--says the factory's fortunes began turning in July 2016 when employees stopped receiving their full pay and creditors raided the business for "all machines and valuables."
The petition also says that because a year-long negotiation between their union representative and former retail clients like Zara's owner Inditex have resulted in a proposed settlement of just over a quarter of the claim, the workers have decided to demand their basic rights and ask that the international community support their effort.
"Inditex said it has made all of its contractual obligations to the workers and is working to set up a hardship fund to raise money 'for the workers affected by the fraudulent disappearance of the Bravo factory's owner,'" notes CNBC.
