So this is basically Let It Be by the Beatles - but it could be No Woman No Cry or Dont Stop Believin, or a thousand other tunes! Welcome to the I V VIm IV, the second most common chord progression in modern rock music. Its 100% major (or Ionian in Modal talk), but that doesnt mean you shouldnt try to follow the chord changes. Start with the C major pentatonic scale, then, once you feel comfortable with that, add the other 2 notes from the major scale. Just let your ear guide you to melodic nirvana! I would suggest listening to No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley, or Let It Be by the Beatles if you need some inspiration. Learn a few of those simple licks! Its a great starting point.\r

Stuff to keep in mind:\r

Keep it simple, and repeat good ideas and sounds you like. \r
\r
Try to play whats in your head, not what youre looking at (like those chord grids up there) or what your fingers have memorized.\r
\r
Be expressive! Try to add hammer-ons, string rakes, palm mutes, pull-offs, bends, slides, vibrato, or whammy bar to as many notes as you can! Listen to the pros, I guarantee thats what theyre doing, unless theyre shredding at a million notes a second. \r
\r
Most importantly: Learn some useful vocabulary! You must either copy some phrases from someone else, or come up with your own phrases to play. Music is a language with MANY dialects - you MUST learn the basics of the language to sound good, AND a the idiosyncrasies of the dialect to sound hip! That, or youre some kind of genius who automatically knows what do do (doubtful) so dont be lazy! Learn some basic blues licks, they will take you far! I learned some Dave Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix licks 20 years ago and I still play em all the time!\r
