Trump On Bergdahl Ruling: 'Complete And Total Disgrace To Our Country'

President Trump has slammed the recent ruling on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, calling the decision a "complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military."
He posted the declaration on Twitter after a judge announced Friday that Bergdahl, who was accused of leaving his base in Afghanistan and endangering the soldiers who went looking for him, would not be imprisoned for his actions.
Instead, Bergdahl's punishment includes a dishonorable discharge, a reduction in rank to private, and a financial penalty of $1,000 over the next ten months, notes the New York Times.
Though his lawyer Eugene Fidell has expressed that they would be appealing the dishonorable discharge, he otherwise indicated that his client was relieved about the case wrapping up.
"As everyone knows he was a captive of the Taliban for nearly five years, and three more years have elapsed while the legal process unfolded. He has lost nearly a decade of his life," Fidell noted.
During his captivity in 2009, the former Army officer was said to have been brutally tortured.
ABC News notes that he was freed in exchange for the release of five Taliban detainees in 2014 under an Obama administration deal which Trump had blasted on Twitter at the time as "a VERY BAD precedent."
