Swedish police arrested four suspects on September 16, after two would-be thieves were recorded jumping from the hood of a car into the back of a truck that was travelling at 80 kph (50 mph) in an attempt to steal cargo, according to Swedish media. After a series of thefts on a stretch of road between Vara and Alingsås in Western Sweden during the summer, surveillance cameras were hidden in packages and positioned in the cargo area of a truck, local media said. The footage, monitored by postal service PostNord, showed a car with it lights turned off approach the back of the truck on a straight, one-lane stretch of road. Two suspects are seen jumping from the hood of the car into the back of the truck where they began to search the cargo.Upon seeing the attempted robbery in progress, PostNord’s security team alerted the driver of the truck who pressed the brakes, forcing the criminal’s car to fall back, and effectively trapping the would-be thieves in the back. Police, who were on standby, were alerted and were waiting to detain the suspects when the truck stopped.Four people were arrested following the incident and are awaiting prosecution, Swedish media reported. This video shows footage from the night that the suspects were arrested, as well as footage from earlier robberies of PostNord trucks believed to be carried out by the same group.
