On this auspicious day, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are worshiped.It is believed that during Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu entrusts the burden of universe to Lord Shankar. In these four months, lord Shiva handles all the work of universe. After four months of sleep, Lord Vishnu awakens on the day of Dev uthni Ekadasi and on the day of Baikunth Chaturdasii, Lord Shankar hands the burden of creation again to Lord Vishnu. The devotee who performs the Baikunth Chaturdasi is liberated from all the hardships of life and he enjoys prosperity, health and finally all pleasures and enjoyment of Baikunth Dham.

कार्तिक माह की शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्दशी को बैकुण्ठ चतुर्दशी के नाम से जाना जाता है।इस शुभ दिन के उपलक्ष्य में भगवान शिव तथा विष्णु की पूजा की जाती है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि चातुर्मास के दौरान भगवान विष्णु सृष्टि का भार भगवान शंकर को सौंप देते हैं। इन चार मासों में सृष्टि का संचालन शिव ही करते हैं। चार मास सोने के बाद देवउठनी एकादशी के दिन भगवान विष्णु जागते हैं और बैकुंठ चतुर्दशी के दिन भगवान शंकर सृष्टि का भार पुन: भगवान विष्णु को सौंपते हैं। बैकुंठ चतुर्दशी करने वाले भक्त को जीवन के सभी कष्‍टों से मुक्ति मिलती है और उन्हें सुख-समृद्धि, आरोग्य तथा अंत में सभी सुखों को भोगकर बैंकुंठ की प्राप्ति होती है।
