Retro Tries: Super Jonathan Davies Try, Wales V Scotland 1988
  • 6 years ago
Wales had already got their Five Nations off to a flyer at Twickenham, courtesy of two Adrian Hadley tries, and hosted Scotland in Cardiff looking to make it two wins from two.
Despite fierce Scottish resistance they did -- Jonathan Davies was first to dot down for the hosts and it was a brilliant individual score.
The fly-half collected Robert Jones' improvised reverse pass on the back foot and took a moment to collect himself.
After sending his opposite man -- and the rest of the Scottish defence -- the wrong way, Davies chipped ahead, chased it down himself and dived onto the ball to score.
After Ieuan Evans and Ian Watkins each added tries of their own there was time for Davies to grab a drop-goal as Wales edged their way to a 25-20 win and, eventually, the Five Nations crown.
