I do like butterflies and got a chance to see plenty of them flying around freely in the Butterfly Pavillion during a field trip as a chaperone for an elementary school field trip.
Did you know that the majority of animal species are invertebrates? One estimate puts the figure at 97%!

In general, I have never been too fond of bugs and insects, especially the spiders. In the Butterfly Pavillion, there is one exhibit where the spiders are freely hanging above your head in their own web with no enclosure! I still bravely entered that exhibit and filmed and took pictures of the spiders above my head. Surprising.y, there are many myths about spiders that put people on the weiry side, so after learning about them, I was more at ease.

Fable: Many spiders kill humans.
Fact: One U.S. study reported approximately 20,000 spider bits in a four year time span without a single death. More people died from dog bits and auto-deer collisions during that time.

Fable: Spiders are poisonous.
Fact: Venomous animats bit or sting while poisonous ones have to be touched or eaten. Did you KNOW that almost all spiders are venomous but NONE are poisonous.

Fable: Spders regularly bite people.
Fact: It takes a huge amount of energy to produce venom so most spiders only bite as a last ressort.

So I would have to say that insects are definitely complex invertebrates, have their own aspects of beauty, and are interesting to look at and study.
