Two women, dogs rescued after 5 months stranded at sea

Two women and their two dogs were rescued after their one month voyage from Hawaii to Tahiti aboard a sailboat became a 5 month nightmare. Jennifer Appel and Tasha Fuiaba departed Hawaii in May... but soon after, bad weather caused their engine to break. They thought they could still reach Tahiti using the wind... but despite their hopes, they drifted across thousands of miles of open ocean. They were rescued by a US Navy ship some 900 miles southeast of Japan, after a Taiwanese fishing vessel informed the US Coast Guard in Guam. Appel and Fuiaba explained that they were well prepared and had a year's worth of food aboard. Both women and their pets are in good health.
