There's a really simple way to get pesticides off of apples

A new study says you no longer have to wipe washed apples on your shirt to get rid of pesticides. Here's what the researchers found after washing apples under tap, with baking soda, and with bleach. "At home, the simplest way to wash is with tap water, but we also found that just tap water is not that effective." "To reduce further pesticide exposure, we suggest adding a little baking soda." The apples sat in a chemical mixture of two common pesticides for 24 hours. The mixture of water and one percent of baking soda removed 80 percent of the first pesticide and 96 percent of the second.
