Watch "Me Too" Spread Worldwide As Women Speak Out

As #MeToo went viral, two other hashtags have come out — from men admitting to past ignorance, silence, and misbehavior.

Actress Alyssa Milano popularized the “Me Too” hashtag in the wake of revelations about Harvey Weinstein. Since then, #MeToo has been posted over 1.4 million times, spiking a few times in the following days. The hashtag’s popularity spiked once when Reese Witherspoon revealed that a director assaulted her at age 16, and spiked once again when Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney alleged sexual abuse by a team doctor.

Since then, some men have admitted to various wrongdoings after being called to speak up on Twitter. #IHave was used in nearly 3,000 posts, spiking for a night before eventually fading away. The hashtag #ItWasMe was also briefly popular, but ultimately both campaigns failed to get a big following. As the fallout continues, it remains to be seen how many more people will speak out about past behavior — both from themselves and from others.
