Doctors in Italy were recently presented with a rather unique and challenging case.
“A 21-year-old woman was admitted to a general medical ward with a three-year history of…bleeding from her palms and face despite no evidence of skin lesions," according to a report  published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. "There was no obvious trigger for the bleeding, which could occur while she was asleep and during times of physical activity. She stated that more intense bleeding occurred during times of perceived emotional stress. Episodes lasted from one to five minutes.”
While there is no widely accepted medical acknowledgment of such an affliction, it is something that has happened a number of times in the past, notes Gizmodo.
During certain eras and in some locations, it was often explained through religion and in regard to the crucifixion of Christ, but the historic record suggests it occurred long before the development and establishment of Christianity.
It has also been reported in more modern times.
The woman’s doctors were not able to determine the cause, but  minimized the episodes by administering a medication commonly used to treat heart and blood pressure issues.
They also gave her anti-anxiety medications, as the woman had reportedly become depressed and prone to episodes of panic due to the bleeding condition.
