The Davis Magnet IB Elementary school is named for Jefferson Davis, but the school has decided to change its name to honor former President Barack Obama instead. The student body, which is 98% black, sparked a discussion to change the school’s name, which the school board approved. The change adds to a larger initiative to remove Confederate monuments from across the United States.
