Texas student in custody after campus police officer shot dead

A university in Texas was locked down on Monday evening after a campus police officer was shot dead.
The suspect, a 19-year-old student, was taken into custody.
Police at Texas Tech University in Lubbock made a student check on Monday night and are said to have found evidence of drugs and drugs paraphernalia in the suspect’s room
He was then taken to the campus police station where he’s said to have pulled out a gun and shot the officer dead before escaping on foot.
The university some 600 kilometres northwest of Austin was put on lockdown while the suspect was at large.
He was later apprehended and the alert was lifted.
Declaring an emergency, the university said counselling was available for staff or students who needed it.
According to one monitoring group, nearly 12,000 people including over 200 police officers have been killed by gun violence in the US so far this year (October 10).
