'These people are hungry': Life in a Rohingya refugee camp

Video has emerged documenting the everyday life of Rohingya Muslim refugees in overcrowded Bangladesh camps after fleeing persecution in Myanmar.
The footage, filmed between September 20-29, shows refugees crossing the border on the Naf River at Shah Porir Dip, Bangladesh, and living in overcrowded camps in Teknaf.
In the video, Asfar, a Rohingya man who arrived in Myanmar three months ago from Malaysia, which hosts tens of thousands of Rohingya refugees from previous crises, explains his people's plight.
“The military burnt people's houses,'' he says.
“Rohingya people were trying to flee Myanmar at night. At that time it was bad weather and many of them died on the Naf river.''
"Now many Rohingya people find safety at Cox's Bazar refugee camp. These people are hungry.”
According to reports, dozens of people have drowned in the Naf River since the mass exodus of Rohingya began several weeks ago as a result of what the United Nations has described as ethnic cleansing.
The Muslim minority in Myanmar has been seeking shelter in neighbouring Bangladesh since violence erupted in Rakhine state in October 2016.
The UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee says 500,000 Rohingya have fled in the last month alone. On Wednesday (October 3), it launched a major fundraising appeal.
