The mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada has set off a great deal of speculation as to whether President Trump will become more open to supporting gun control measures.

The mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday has set off a great deal of speculation as to whether President Trump will become more open to supporting gun control measures.
According to Axios, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon doesn’t believe such a change is likely, but says if it somehow does, it “will be the end of everything."
“When asked whether Trump's base would react worse to this than they would if he supported an immigration amnesty bill, Bannon replied: ‘as hard as it is to believe actually worse,’” the news site further reports.
Politico notes that on Tuesday morning, the president deferred questions about potential firearm restrictions, telling reporters, “we'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by.”
In regards to a debated bill that will slacken prohibitions on gun silencers, Trump commented, “We’ll talk about that later.”
His Tuesday comments echo the statements made the day prior by press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
When asked if the Las Vegas shooting is likely to prompt a larger conversation about gun policy, Sanders replied, in part, “I think that there will be, certainly, time for that policy discussion to take place, but that's not the place that we're in at this moment.”
While much remains unknown about the Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, authorities have revealed that he managed to assemble an arsenal in his Mandalay Bay hotel room.
The New York Times notes that among the many reported guns found were assault rifles and rifles equipped with scopes.
The Sunday mass shooting claimed at least 59 lives and left over 500 people injured.
