Ark: Survival Evolved - Quetzal Solo Taming\r

This gameplay video tells the story of how I managed to knock out quetzal using a crossbow from the ground. Then I will show you how I managed to protect it, keep it unconscious and finally tame it, even though I was not planning to tame a quetzal that day ( was out snatching/ stealing eggs ), and my supplies were far away.\r

This was a new dino when I tamed it several months ago. Sorry it has taken me so long to put it together and post it.\r

Some have complained that it is ridiculously difficult to tame in the Ark: Survival Evolved singleplayer sandbox game. The official wiki ( see below ) states that a wild Quetzal never stops flying, so knocking one unconscious solo is nearly impossible. While I think that is an overstatement, I will agree that it is very difficult just to knock out a Quetzal solo. Once it is down, it will require protection, a lot of narcotics, and feeding. Definitely, taming a Quetzal is no small undertaking for the solo player of Ark: Survival Evolved--but with preparation and luck, it is not only doable, but very worthwhile.\r

The Quetzalcoatlus, or Quetzal as it is called in Ark: Survival Evolved, is easily one of the most useful mounts in the game so far. I would argue that it is the single most-useful tame in the game. Not only can a platform saddle and mini-base be built on its back, but it is currently capable of carrying creatures as large as the stegosaurus and mammoth. It is also capable of flying faster than the Argentavis, has great stamina, and can rest while airborn, simply by having its pilot dismount. Oh, and a player can dismount and remain standing on his/ her quetzal while airborn, even without the platform saddle. This makes the quetzal very useful for reaching things that would otherwise be very difficult or even impossible to reach. If all of this werent enough, the quetzal is currently more than capable of fighting and killing a spino or rex, to say nothing of less dangerous creatures. Finally, quetzal egg kibble is used for taming Giganotosaurus, and quetzal eggs are the second-best ( to giganoto egg ) taming food for Oviraptor.\r

So again, while the quetzal is very difficult to tame solo, it is definitely very worthwhile.\r
